My journey to birth began with my mother, who told me that childbirth was the most wonderful experience she had ever had. At the age of 19 I saw my first birth, a footling breech born into her father's hands in a log cabin in the mountains of West Virginia (now a grad student at Harvard). I had my own homebirth a few years later. I always knew I wanted my work to be imbued with meaning. Midwifery allows the boundaries between work, art and sacredness to meld.
I am a writer. I also have a music background, having been a student of piano and oboe at the High School of Music and Art. I returned to college in 2001, completing my BA at Sarah Lawrence College. Attending this college fulfilled a longtime dream; I concentrated my studies in literature and writing.
I am the mother of two sons, and the grandmother of one juicy grandson and one more on the way.
Toni Morrison is a favorite author. Poetry informs my own prose. I practice Iyengar yoga, my chosen way to stay strong and centered. I've lived on both coasts, and now have chosen Park Slope, Brooklyn as our home.
